An Overview of the most Critical Problems & Solutions

U.S. Oil production peaked in 1970 and global oil production peaked in 2005, but even if oil and the other fossils nuclear fuels were inexhaustible, their byproducts, including gasoline, diesel, pesticides and other highly-toxic chemicals and radiological poisons are now causing trillions of dollars of heath care costs worldwide.

it is now known that the use of oil, coal, natural gas and other toxic fossil and nuclear fuels and chemicals have now contaminated the surface, subsurface and atmosphere of the Earth, as well as every organ of every person and animal worldwide.  Alarmed by studies showing wide-spread contamination in children and adults by thousands of toxic chemicals that are unregulated, the American Academy of Pediatrics has condemned the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 that controlled nothing except ability of federal officials to ban toxic industrial chemicals, or even order tests on these chemicals that are now in the blood of virtually every American citizen, which clearly has Nuremberg implications. 

This has resulted in trillions of dollars in unnecessary health care costs, most of which are simply added to the national debt.

Distinguished professors of medicine, including Bernard Weiss, Arnold Schecter, John Gofman and Sanjay Gupta, CNN's Chief Medical Correspondent, have documented that these unregulated poisons are now "ubiquitous" in the blood and brains of every human and animal on the Earth.  And when these chlorinated hydrocarbon poisons in the blood come in contact with the highly-complex proteins in the brain and body, which are imaged below by the Scripts Molecular Biology Laboratory, the result on a molecular scale of proteins and DNA is catastrophic. 

Proteins and DNA

Virtually all of the DNA molecules, which are imaged on the right, are four-digit computer codes that are used to manufacture proteins, like the one shown on the left, which may contain some half million atoms arranged in highly complex structures.  These proteins are part of a highly-advanced 4-billion year old civilization that is the heart and very essence of life, metabolism and memory storage of all live as we know it.  Proteins are so complex that no supercomputer is yet advanced enough to characterize their chemistry, which involves making and operating brains and nervous systems, yet when these protein-scale "biological creators" encounter a molecule of any pesticide or similar toxins, the poisons act like acid balls that destroy the proteins by melting them into sticky parts, some of which end up on the nerve endings of neurons. 

This is the clinical definition of Alzheimer's, and an epidemic of similar neurological diseases like Autism and Down syndrome, as well as cancer, is now going to cost trillions of dollars each year, and that does factor the pain and suffering of losing one's memories or the other epidemic of cancer worldwide.  All of this global contamination, which is now even in the blood of the bears, fish and birds in the Arctic, was made legal by lobbyists so a few companies could make several billion dollars a year in profits. That allows them to make campaign contributions to politicians like Michele Bachman, Rick Perry and Sarah Palin, who seek to remove any regulations of such industries that are now allowed to generate over one trillion gallons of these long-lived poison each year.

Lobbyists were also responsible for changing the tax code to benefit the super rich individuals and corporations, from over 90% in the Eisenhower and Kennedy administrations, to the 35% rate that was put into place by Ronald Reagan.  While this benefited the wealthy, the national debt soared as a result of these "Robin Hood in Reverse" Republican policies.

The Exponential increase in deficits occurred in both Republican and so-called Democratic administrations, which led to the devaluation of the U.S. Dollar as shown below.

The value of the U.S. dollar has fallen by over 90% from 1970  to 2008, as a result of the increasing debt and the secret monetary policy of the Federal Reserve.  The debt has continued to grow exponentially with the bankers bailouts regardless of whether Republican or so-called Democratic administrations were in power.  Moreover, according to Bill Gross, the founder and principal of the Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO), the largest holder of government bonds in the world, which has over $1.3 trillion in assets, the secret banker bailouts actually cost the American taxpayer $50 trillion, not 700 billion.

Nuclear Power

Nuclear power could never have been developed or used without massive taxpayer subsidies, and while nuclear energy was supposed to displace fossil fuels, it has in fact created some of the most serious and unresolved global contamination problems, including the mass-production of highly-toxic depleted uranium, which has a half-life of 4.5 billion years.  While technically illiterate people such as Barack Obama, George W. Bush and many Members of Congress have proclaimed nuclear energy to be "clean and safe," it is in fact neither, and none of the nuclear wastes have ever been properly disposed of since the nuclear program was started in World War II.  This is because no one knows how to deal with the radiological poisons that according to Medical Professor John Gofman, have contaminated every organ of every person and animal worldwide.

In the 1960s, the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) asked Gofman to establish a Biomedical Research Division at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, for the purpose of evaluating the health effects of all types of nuclear activities. From 1963-1965, he served as the division's first director.  Gofman and his colleague, Dr. Arthur Tamplin, quantified the breast-cancer risk (1970, The Lancet 1:297), and looked at the other available evidence, which caused them to conclude that human exposure to ionizing nuclear radiation was much more serious than previously recognized, and that 75% of breast cancers were actually caused by the X-rays given in routine mammograms. 

Because of these finding, Gofman and Tamplin spoke out publicly that no amount of X-ray or gamma ray radiation exposure was safe, and that the Nixon administrations plans to build 1000 nuclear plants was unwise, at which point the AEC administrators, who were not trained in medicine but were ordered to rapidly scale up the American nuclear program by the Nixon administration, restricted their access to the press, and in 1973 Gofman returned to full-time teaching and medical research at the University of California at Berkeley.  

The longer a nuclear power plant operates, the more radioactive it becomes, and the cost to decommission the plant will cost far more than it did to build the reactor complex in the first place.  According to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), every nuclear plant in the U.S. is now suffering from serious levels of stress corrosion in the primary reactor cores, which essentially makes each of these plants ticking time bombs.  But the highly-secretive nuclear industrial complex refuses to acknowledge any problems.  Indeed, in a recent AP news story (March 25, 2011) an audit by the Inspection General of the NRC indicated that private companies that now operate nuclear plants are not reporting such problems because the guidelines for the nuclear industry are "contradictory and unclear."

The bottom line is that when major accidents do occur, the private companies will simply go out of business, and the American citizens will then be responsible to trying to deal with the invisible nuclear radiological poisons essentially forever.  Details on professor Gofman's work, and the many other problems of the nuclear industry are documented in Harry Braun's paper on nuclear power, which is posted in the "Papers" section of the PhoenixProjectFoundation.US website.

The Yellowstone "Supervolcano"

While there are a number of catastrophic problems that now confront the USA and the global human community, there is none more serious than potential imminent eruption of the Yellowstone Caldera, which has been referred to as a Supervolcano because of its immense size.  While a conventional volcano might have a crater that has a diameter of a mile, the Yellowstone Caldera's past eruptions have created eruptions that are nearly 50 miles in diameter, and the vast amounts of ash released by this event, which occurs about every 600,000 years, will block all of direct sun from the surface of the Earth for approximately 8 years, which means mass-starvation will occur worldwide for humans and other animals.

Scientists at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) have been carefully monitoring and mapping the Yellowstone Caldera for many decades, and they have indicated the volcano is well past due for a major eruption.  Key warning signs, include the forests are dying because their roots are being cooked, the surface is deforming and there were a record number of  over 1,000 tremors in 2010, all of which suggest that an eruption could be imminent. Moreover, British Geologic Survey scientists has reported the massive amounts of magma now moving deep in the Earth has not been seen since the last time the Yellowstone Caldera erupted some 630,000 years ago.

While most people assume no one will survive such an event, Harry Braun has pointed out that if "Lifeboat" indoor food production systems like those shown in the "solutions" section below are mass-produced in each community, civilization will indeed survive and prosper.  It is worth noting that the federal government borrowed over $120 billion to pay millions of unemployed people not to work for a year.  If Harry Braun was President, he would have used that money to simply hire those unemployed people to build and operate the Lifeboat food production systems in each and every community, which are the only way to grow poison-free food regardless of the climate change or volcanic induced disruptions of conventional poison-based agricultural systems that are unsustainable.  Even if the Yellowstone caldera eruption does not occur in the near future, poison-free food production system is still needed for the American people.

Shifting to a Democratic Political System and Solar Hydrogen Energy,
Economic and Agricultural Systems

The proposed Democracy amendment and Fair Accounting Act amendments, which are discussed on this website, are the “trigger mechanisms” that will provide the political support and financial incentives for implementing this critical "reindustrialization" of the USA.  This is the only proposal that will generate literally trillions of dollars of new wealth each year, while complying with the urgent warnings and carbon reduction specifications of the National Academy of Sciences to essentially phase out the production and use of fossil fuels with wartime-speed.

 

  
The first automobile built in 1807 (upper left) was using hydrogen fuel made from water and electricity -- and not toxic gasoline that is far more difficult and dangerous to produce.  A state-of-the art liquid hydrogen fueled BMW is shown on the right with a cut-away of its liquid hydrogen storage tank that is placed behind the rear passenger seats.  Liquid hydrogen aircraft designed by Lockheed and transport ships built by General Dynamics are shown below. 

Details of making hydrogen fuel from water with electricity generated from the wind are shown in Braun's Presidential Campaign Platform document, and is posted in the "Papers" section of this website.  Virtually all of the major automobile and aircraft manufacturers worldwide are now developing hydrogen-fueled vehicles, and the U.S. National Laboratories and BMW have been successfully demonstrating liquid hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engines, storage systems and vehicles for over 30 years. Were it not for the financial interests of fossil, nuclear and chemical industry lobbyists, the Solar Hydrogen Economy could have been implemented by the 1980s, which means none of the global chemical contamination and multi-trillion dollar Oil Wars needed to happen.

Since the electrolytic hydrogen production and engine conversion kits have been in the public domain for over 200 years, the U.S. Department of Energy should take responsibility for having the Department of Defense, General Electric and other aerospace and automotive companies mass-produce the 5 million 2 megawatt wind and other solar powered hydrogen production systems so that the over $1 trillion generated each year will go the majority of citizens rather than to foreign countries, or to the oil, coal, natural gas or nuclear companies.  This is how Hover Dam was built, and after all, who other than the majority of citizens should have the rights to profit from the use of the sun, wind and water resources with technologies that have been in use for over 200 years?

As mentioned earlier, many so-called energy experts dismiss wind and other solar technologies because such resources are intermittent (i.e., the wind changes its intensity every second, and it often blows at night when there is no need for electricity).  However, the electricity the wind and solar technologies generates over a given month is highly predictable, which is why bankers finance wind and solar projects, and if most of the electricity is used to make hydrogen from water, then everything changes. 

This is because right now, electricity only accounts for about 10% of our total energy use, whereas the vast majority of the energy we consume is in the form of toxic hydrocarbon fossil fuels (i.e., molecules where the carbon is chemically bonded to hydrogen), such as diesel, gasoline, propane or natural gas, which are permanently poisoning vast areas of land and trillions of gallons of water resources at millions of drilling sites in every county in over 30 states, all of which could of been avoided if hydrogen was simply made from water with solar-sourced electricity. 

It is why hydrogen production is the key to making solar technologies practical and able to provide a pollution-free and inexhaustible combustion fuel that can power all of the existing automotive vehicles, aircraft, ships, trains and power plants worldwide, essentially forever.  Thus rather than trying to invent some new technology, which will then take decades to refine, all of the existing engineers and scientists worldwide can then focus their efforts on optimizing the hydrogen production, storage, transmission and end-use technologies, which will then accelerate a rapid transition to a Solar Hydrogen Economy that will provide pollution-free energy as long as the sun continues to shine.

The Answer is Blowing in the Wind

Wind systems have been providing mechanical power to humans for over thousand years, and since they are a mature technology that is very similar to an automobile or aircraft from a manufacturing perspective, they can be rapidly mass-produced for large-scale electricity and hydrogen production.  Less than 5 million 2 megawatt wind system would be needed to displace all fossil and nuclear fuels in the USA, and the 5 million units could be built in about 12 months once the tooling is in place.  Since the wind systems would be generating over $1 trillion annually in electricity and hydrogen, their $10 trillion capital investment could be paid off in less than 10 years.

This underscores the complete reckless nature of the Republican government of bribery that has bankrupted the U.S. and allowed every man, woman and child to be contaminated with the most toxic chemicals known.  Instead of wasting billions of taxpayer dollars on more oil, coal and nuclear facilities, that money should have been spent on advanced wind and solar technologies, including the sea-based Windships, developed by a Naval engineering professor and ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) systems, which were first developed in the 1800s, and have been under development by Lockheed Martin since the 1970s. 

Sea-Bases "Windships"

Sea-based "Windships" shown above left were developed by Norsk Hydro, and the wind-powered hydrogen production system on the right was developed by engineering professor William Heronemus in the 1970s.  Heronemus, who was a graduate of the Naval Academy who designed the hulls for nuclear submarines, pointed out that from a technology perspective, the Windship systems could have been produced in the 1800s, and such systems were formally proposed by a JBS Haldane, a professor of  molecular biology at Cambridge University in 1920s. 

The crew would live and work in the submerged spherical hulls below the water where the seawater is converted into hydrogen, and all of the equipment below the water's surface precludes any commercial fishing activity, which means the millions of sea-based solar hydrogen production systems would create a vast ocean sanctuary for the remaining fish and marine organisms that are in the final stages of being hunted into extinction.  Wind systems alone could displace all fossil and nuclear fuels now used worldwide, and so could solar ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) systems, which were also developed in the 1800 by a French Physicist.

Solar OTEC Systems

The 100 MW OTEC power plant shown above was developed in the 1970s by Lockheed and the Energy Research and Development Administration during the Carter administration.  While the OTEC program was technically a success, lobbyists convinced President Reagan to terminate the program in favor of using more fossil and nuclear fuels.  Lockheed Martin, however, has continued to actively develop OTEC systems, which alone could displace all fossil and nuclear fuels now used worldwide.

While many so-called energy experts state that all energy options must be pursued, the reality is that wind systems alone can generate enough electricity and hydrogen to displace all fossil and nuclear fuels now used worldwide.  Moreover, the same can be said of OTEC, which is a solar technology that stands for "Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion" systems that are able to operate 24/7, regardless of weather conditions.  However, since OTEC systems use the largest solar collector on the planet (the tropical oceans) any electricity they generate would be far from its end use point, but if the electricity is passed through the seawater, the hydrogen can then be stored, and transported by ship, tanker truck or pipeline to any energy market worldwide. 

OTEC systems are significant because they are relatively simple technologies that were developed in the 1800s by a French physicist, and for the past 40 years, OTEC systems have been developed by a number of universities and companies, including Lockheed Martin. OTEC systems, which are shown on the PhoenixProjectFoundation.US website, are no more difficult to build than an oil tanker, and they are able to produce vast quantities of fresh water and seafood as a by-product of their solar power production cycle.  Every oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico could have been modified to be an OTEC plant, but the oil industry lobbyists made sure that the oil and fossil fuel addiction would continue, and the only way to alter this reality is to bypass the lobbyists and Members of Congress by implementing Article V of the U.S. Constitution. 

In addition to never needing to use oil and other toxic and on-renewable fossil fuels, there was also no need to use it to lubricate industrial engines, except for making oil companies wealthy enough to hire thousands of lobbyists to bribe elected officials to believe industry misinformation that there is no substitutes for oil and other fossil and nuclear fuels. 

In the case of engine lubricants, there are a number of biolubricants being developed, but one that has existed for millions of years is the Jojoba plant (pronounced Hohoba) a 10 foot tall by 10 foot wide wild shrub bush, that can live for over 150 years, and requires little water, maintenance and no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are needed. Jojoba plants typically grow in semi-arid desert regions of the American Southwest and other countries like India with similar environmental conditions. 

The Jojoba seeds or “beans” contain a very high-quality lubricant wax that is superior to Sperm whale oil for the high-pressure and temperature environments of industrial engines.  The large scale production of Jojoba plants has long been considered in the U.S., but at present the only commercial scale production of Jojoba plants is in Egypt and India Institute of Petroleum.

Given that the surface of the Earth has now been contaminated, that means all of the existing food sold contains these chemical poisons, which are concentrated hundreds of times in animals like humans, cows, fish and birds, all of which are high on the food-chain.  In addition, climate change induced droughts and floods are already affecting major food production systems worldwide, and the global ocean ecosystems are now more than 90% dead from chemical contamination and overfishing.  If that were not bad enough, the Yellowstone Caldera is showing all of the signs of a major eruption, which would end conventional agriculture worldwide for perhaps 8 years.  This underscores the need to begin mass-producing indoor organic hydroponic "Lifeboat" food production systems in homes and facilities in each community, like those pictured below, which are critical if civilization is to survive, and such systems could generate over 2 trillion annually by producing ultra-high quality poison-free food that can be exported worldwide.

Implementing Article V of the U.S. Constitution

The fact that the solar hydrogen production and end-use technologies were developed in the 1800s underscores the fact that the obstacles to this transition of substance to a Solar Hydrogen Economy are not technical – they are political. 

Given the USA is a Republic, which is an oligarchic rule by the tiny few in secret with lobbyists, what results is a government of the rich, by the rich for the rich.  This is why governments of Iran, North Korea, Russia, China, Libya, Syria and other oppressive governments are all Republics.  As such, the most important action is to pass a Democracy amendment in an Article V Constitutional Convention that is able to bypass the U.S. Congress and its army of lobbyists.

While Republicans like to believe that Democracy will result in "Mob Rule," Switzerland, which has four official languages because its citizens came from all over Europe, has been operating as  Democracy for nearly 800 years, and there has never been any Mob Rule in Switerland.  The Swiss Democratic Constitution was first approved in the year 1291, when Switzerland was surrounded by oppressive Monarchy's, and it has allowed the Swiss to avoid foreign wars while providing with one of the highest standards of living in the world to its citizens. 

If the U.S. established a Democratic form of government, the U.S. Congress would then be run like the U.S. Navy, where money and bribes would be serous crimes with long prison sentences.  Members of Congress are provided with substantial salaries and expenses, yet they admit that they spend 90% of their time at fundraisers, and few people are aware that when they retire from their elected offices, they are allowed to quietly keep the vast sums of money that has accumulated in their campaign committees, which means they have really spent 90% of their time working for themselves and not their constituents. 

In the Democratic Republic being proposed by Harry Braun, such commissions in addition to the already generous salaries, expenses and retirement benefits would simply be illegal. 

It is important to note that many of the most serious economic, environmental and foreign policy problems are related to America’s addiction to fossil and nuclear fuels, and in spite of the devastating Gulf oil spill and the Japanese nuclear meltdown, President Obama and the other presidential candidates all continue to promote only token efforts in renewable energy, while the vast majority of energy will continue to come from the highly-toxic and rapidly diminishing fossil and nuclear fuels.

Prudence, indeed, dictates that governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes.  But when a long train of abuses have resulted in the contamination of the air, land, water, food, and our own people, which has resulted in an epidemic of permanent brain damage in millions of children, while afflicting millions of others with heart attacks, strokes, cancer and lung disease; as well as the exponentially worsening economic, energy, environmental, education and health care problems; it is our right, it is our duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new regulatory safeguards for our future security. 

Given the exponentially worsening energy, economic, environmental and political State of Emergency that now exists, it is now critical for the majority of American citizens to take direct control of the federal government with an Article V Constitutional Convention that will formalize this transfer of political power by passing an amendment to change the USA from being a Republic, which is rule by the tiny few in secret with lobbyists, to a Democracy, where only the majority of citizens will have the power to approve all legislation and judicial decisions. 

It is no accident that most American citizens assume that the USA is a Democracy.  This Orwellian misinformation is continually reinforced by news commentators and politicians in the U.S.  A case in point is Dr. Fareed Zakaria, who received his PhD in political science from Yale and is now a highly respected host on CNN's GPS program.  Fareed recently referred to India as the world’s largest and oldest Democracy, which is simply not the case because India, like the United States, is not a Democracy at all, but a Republic.  The only major country in the modern era that does operate as a Democracy is Switzerland, and they have been successfully functioning with a true democratic form of government since the 13th Century, which would make Switzerland the oldest and largest Democracy. 

In point of fact, most countries, including the USA, Israel, China and North Korea are not Democracies, but Republics, which is why political corruption is so widespread worldwide that even children know that "money is the mothers milk of politics."

As Chairman of the Phoenix Project Foundation and Political Action Committee, Harry Braun repeatedly emailed Fareed and his executive producer about this mistake, as well as the other mistake he made when he proclaimed that there was no energy alternative to fossil fuels, yet he has refused to respond to my emails or correct the record.  While Fareed may have a PhD from Yale, all he needed is a few minutes with a dictionary to understand that Democratic and Republican forms of government are fundamentally different, and many of the most serious problems that now confront the human community stem from the fact that most nations are Republics and not Democracies. 

It is also worth noting that in the following CNN program after GPS, Christiane Amanpour, another highly respected CNN journalist, made a similar mistake when she referred to Israel as a Democracy.  This was an especially interesting comment because Christiane also stated in the same program that the majority of Israeli citizens did not support their government’s settlement policy on Arab lands, which most analysts would agree is the primary factor that is preventing any fundamental reconciliation between the Israelis and the Palestinians and other Arabs in the Middle East.  It is why the definitions of words are indeed important. 

A Democracy Amendment would transform the U.S.A. from being a Republic, which is "rule by the tiny few in secret with lobbyists," into a Democratic Republic, where the majority of American citizens would have the power and responsibility to approve all legislation and judicial decisions that affect the majority of citizens.  This change is the only way to essentially eliminate the power of lobbyists and the political corruption that they foster.  Given this accurate definition of the language, it is obvious that the United States is not now nor has it ever been a Democracy, and virtually all of the so-called Democrats in the government are really Republicans.  

While most people assume the U.S. already has a democratic form of government, such Orwellian misinformation only serves the interests of corrupt elected officials and lobbyists who write the thousand page bills that most members of congress do not even read before they vote to approve them. 

The most important differences in a Republican form of government compared to a Democracy is that a Republic is "representative" government, which is in and itself rule by the tiny few (i.e., far less than one-half of one percent of the citizens in the USA are elected representatives), but given the way the seniority system in Congress works, an even much smaller number of Committee Chairman are empowered to not only conduct business in secret, but they alone get to determine which bills are even allowed to come to a vote in the Congress.  This means that lobbyists only have to bribe and otherwise influence a tiny number of the already tiny number of elected officials that are elected to the Congress, and with the unverified computerized voting machines that are easy to hack and are now in widespread use, even the elections are highly suspect.

In a Democracy, however, the majority of the citizens would be in charge, and it is reasonable to assume that the majority of citizens would make it illegal for elected officials to accept any bribes from anyone for any reason. Furthermore, it is also reasonable to assume that in a Democratic form of government, elected officials would serve only as long as they have the support of the majority of citizens. The day that support from the majority drops below 50%, a new election can be held.   

While the so called “free trade” policies that have been imposed by the corporate lobbyists have increased the short-term multinational corporate profits, these highly destructive and reckless policies have de-industrialized the USA; they have resulted in the an explosion of slave labor conditions abroad, which has encouraged the private sector to outsource jobs; they have imported millions of illegal immigrants who have driven down the wages for American citizens and transformed China into an economic and military superpower.

Moreover, under the current interpretation of the 14th Amendment, the children of illegal immigrants are allowed to become American citizens.  This interpretation is unreasonable given that illegal immigrants receive medical benefits that are denied to American citizens, and no country in the world allows millions of illegal immigrants to register to vote, which underscores why all of the existing amendments need to be carefully evaluated and re-interpreted as necessary by the majority of American citizens. 

Most people believe that because elections are held, that makes a Republic a Democracy, but elections, are often manipulated in many countries, including the U.S., especially since computerized voting machines were introduced as an alternative to the hanging-chad chaos of the punch card voting machines that were used in Florida in the 2000 presidential campaign.  With the existing computer voting systems, no one can say for sure who won an election.

While many countries like Canada still use inexpensive and easily verifiable paper ballots that are collected and counted in public, typically with the news media present, the Bush administration encouraged the U.S. to purchase expensive computerized voting machines from private companies like ES&S and Diebold that can be easily hacked and then these private companies were then allowed to count the votes in secret.  After the 2004 election, however, an independent audit in Oho showed that the voter-memory card totals failed to match electronic voting machine ballot tallies in more than one quarter of the samples checked in the state’s most populous county.  And after a similar investigation in California, its Secretary of State, Kevin Shelly, called Diebold's activities in that state "fraudulent" and "deceitful," and banned the use of the Diebold touch screen “E-machines” until they could be proven to meet security standards. 

When George W. Bush supposedly won a critical and narrow victory in Ohio in 2004, it was widely reported in the media that the exit polls indicated that it was Kerry who won the election, and although a legal investigation was launched, and a Judge ordered that all of the computer data on the vote was to be preserved, someone managed to erase all of the computer data, and Bush was certified as the winner.  It is important to note that the CEOs of Diebold and ES&S made no secret of their partisan support of Bush, and the Bush administration even provided Ohio with a grant for $100 million to purchase the Diebold machines, which then presumably gave the election to Bush. 

So much for free and fair elections. 

However, even if verifiable and inexpensive paper ballots are used, there is a long and sad history of candidates, like George W. Bush and Barack Obama, who make campaign pledges and promises, but once they get elected, they simply ignore their promises, and the voters have no real power to hold the elected officials accountable.  

That could never happen in a Democratic Republic like Switzerland has been using since the 13th Century, because a majority of the citizens who vote must approve all legislation that affects the majority.  That is the nature of the Democracy amendment that Harry Braun is proposing, whereby the majority of American citizens will ultimately determine policy and not oil and coal company lobbyists, and the tens of thousands of other lobbyists who represent foreign corporations and the tiny number of super rich individuals and families who can afford to hire them.  This is why the greatest transfer of wealth in history has been allowed to take place where some $8 trillion in tax cuts has made the super rich much richer, and such Robin Hood in Reverse" policies have devastated the Middle Class by a reducing the value of the U.S. dollar by over 90% just since 1970.  

Elections come and go, but very little changes regardless of who gets elected.  Given this reality, and given the scale and scope of the current financial collapse, and the fact that the current two party system of government in the U.S. is so fundamentally corrupted by an army of over 35,000 lobbyists that only a series of amendments to the U.S. Constitution can resolve the problem.  A Democracy amendment will put an end to the influence of lobbyists who are in the final stages of destroying not only America’s economy and contaminating virtually every every American citizen, but the biological life-support systems of the only planet in the universe that can sustain us and our future generations.

A U.S. Constitutional Convention to pass a Democracy is now critical if the USA and human civilization is going to survive the 6th Mass-extinction event in the Earth's 4-billion year old history that is now in the final stages of passing the tipping point of no return. 

Given the economic and environmental State of Emergency that now exists, Harry Braun and his colleagues will work closely with citizens, the news media and State Legislatures in all 50 states to hold hearings and to organize an Article V Constitutional Convention as soon as possible in order to empower the majority of American people to bypass the lobbyists and essentially take control of the federal government.  It should be possible for each citizen to vote to ratify the Democracy amendment, either by paper ballots or on-line with completely verifiable open source elections software that can be monitored by experts in every major college and university, as well as any citizen who wants to be sure his vote was properly counted.  With this approach, the Democracy amendment could then be ratified in a matter of weeks, once the media informs the American public about this Article V move on the constitutional chessboard. 

Other Issue Considerations

Once the Democracy amendment is passed and ratified, it will then impact every major policy decision, including Economic, Energy, Environmental, Education, Health Care, and Foreign Policy.  It will then be possible to end government secrecy, unverified voting machines, federal budget deficits, and the production of radioactive and other chemical wastes, while providing a universal non-profit health care system that would eliminate the need for health insurance, and no longer allow physicians to "operate" on commission.  Details on this approach are in the "Papers" section of the PhoenixProjectFoundation.US website.

Democratic majority

1.  Implement a Solar Hydrogen Economy with wartime-speed (i.e., by 2020)
Many of the most serious energy, economic, environmental and foreign policy problems result from the continued use of oil, coal, natural gas and other fossil and nuclear fuels that are rapidly diminishing and highly polluting.  It is important to note that in spite of the devastating Gulf oil spill and the Japanese nuclear meltdown, President Obama and the other presidential candidates continue to promote only token efforts in renewable energy, while the vast majority of energy will continue to come from the highly-toxic and rapidly diminishing fossil and nuclear fuels that continue to poison every man, woman and child (including the unborn) while continuing to allow the Federal Reserve to devalue the U.S. Dollar as USA continues to slide into bankruptcy.  

2.  Pass of an Article V Democracy Amendment
In order to end the "Robin Hood in Reverse policies that have been in place for the past 40 years, it is critical to eliminate a government run by lobbyists by enacting Article V of the U.S. Constitution in order to organize a Constitutional Convention in order to pass a Democracy amendment that will transform the USA from being a Republic, which in fact turns out to be is rule by a tiny few in secret, to a Democratic Republic, where the majority of voting citizens -- and not their elected representatives -- will have the power to approve all legislation and judicial decisions that affect the majority of citizens.  Given this understanding, it is easy to see why the Governments of North Korea, Iran, Russia, Iraq, Libya, Syria and the U.S. all operate as Republics and not Democracies.

3.  Pass a Fair Accounting Act Amendment
According to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), it is now critical to phase out all fossil fuels with wartime speed, and the only technically and economically practical path is to implement a Solar Hydrogen Economy with wartime-speed (i.e., by 2020).  The Fair Accounting Act is the "trigger mechanism" for reindustrialization because it would empower the NAS to end the trillions of dollars in pollution subsidies that are used to make fossil and nuclear fuels appear to be less expensive than solar-sourced hydrogen.  The Fair Accounting Act would also rapidly phase out the use of over 85,000 toxic chemicals that have contaminated every organ of every man, woman and child in less than one generation, which has resulted in the unnecessary trillions of dollars of health care costs and human suffering that have resulted the heart attacks, strokes, cancer and profound neurological disorders, including the epidemic levels of autism and dementia that is now occurring worldwide. 

4.  Deal with the Exponentially Increasing National Debt
In order to balance the federal budget and begin reducing the national debt, a Solar Hydrogen Economy needs to be implemented like a large-scale Hoover Dam, so over $2 trillion annually can be kept in the U.S. and used to pay for government services and debt.  In addition, the reckless military adventures in countries such as Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan as well as the stationing of U.S. troops in over 100 countries must be ended so that major cuts can be made in the Defense Department, the CIA and NSA.  U.S. Foreign Policy needs to be based on treating others as we would want to be treated, rather than serving the financial interests of multinational corporations whose only golden rule is "Those who have the gold make the rules." 

The “Robin Hood in Reverse” tax rates for the rich over the past 40 years should be reversed to the tax rates under the Eisenhower and Kennedy administrations, when the wealthiest Americans paid over 90% of their income in taxes, and the U.S. economy had record prosperity.  Had the irresponsible wars and tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans been avoided, most to the $15 trillion national debt would not exist.  However, according to Mr. Bill Gross, the founder and principal of the Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO), which has over $1.3 trillion invested in government treasury notes, the banker bailout was not $700 billion, but approximately $50 trillion, and there is another $50 trillion in unfunded liabilities for health care costs in the U.S.  Given such staggering debt numbers, once the existing American Republic that was responsible for this creating this massive debt has been replaced by an American Democracy, the new American government should not be responsible for the irresponsible debt that was amassed in secret by the former Republican form of government.

5.  Implement a Universal Non-Profit Health Care System
To deal with the trillions of dollars of unfunded liabilities for health care, a universal health care system for all Americans needs to be established based on the non-profit military health care systems in the U.S. armed forces.  Approximately 30% of health care costs go to unnecessary health insurance companies and another 30% are now spent on terminally ill patients torturing them in the last six months of their lives so the doctors and hospitals can maximize profits from unnecessary procedures.  This is why it is critical NOT to have doctors and hospitals "operating" on a commission basis, which is a primary cause of increasing medical costs and unnecessary pain and suffering of millions of patients.  Details on Braun's health care proposals on health care are posted on the "papers" section of the PhoenixProjectFoundation.US website. 

6.  Implement Fair Markets vs "Free" Unregulated Markets
The U.S. labor force cannot compete with slave-labor workers abroad who are better educated and work for about 10% of what comparable jobs in the U.S. pay.  Instead of lowering the American standard of living to that of Third world countries, which often use child and slave labor and have a complete disregard for the environment, U.S. trade policy should focus on bringing the Third world standard of living up to American and European standards by encouraging organized labor and enforcing minimum wage and environmental standards for products.

7.  Provide Educational Excellence for Everyone
Given that a democracy cannot properly function unless the general public is well educated in critical thinking skills, an amendment to provide educational excellence for all American citizens is also critical.  Given that current costs of education are far too high, and teachers can not be expected to teach what they do not know, the federal government needs to be responsible for organizing the best and brightest educators and documentary film producers and animators to produce History channel quality educational programs on every major subject area, which can be provided at little or no cost on the internet, or on CD/DVDs.  This will allow each and every student, as well as their parents and other family members, to progress at their own speed and have access to the very best educational instructors and materials 24/7.  This will make learning technical fundamentals and critical thinking skills a truly entertaining experience, and allow the existing educators to upgrade their educational training while "on the job." Over $1 trillion has been spent on the Drug Wars that have turned brutal gang lords into billionaires. According to a CBS News 60 Minutes report, major illegal drugs, including heron, are no worse than alcohol from a medical perspective, and by making such drugs illegal, over 50% of the U.S. prison population is there because of drug charges.  Prohibition did not work, and either has the worsening drug wars that have been going on for decades.  Drug abuse is a medical problem, it doesn't need to be a criminal problem.
